Webinar:

Understanding Database Locking and Blocking: 100% Demo - Part 4 (Deadlocks)

Overview:

Length: 1 hour

One of the most pernicious problems within an RDBMS, like SQL Server or Azure SQL, are deadlocks. Deadlocks are a condition where two or more users vie for locks on resources exclusively locked by the other user at the same time. Because none of the users are willing to give up their exclusive locks and they all want exclusive locks on the other resources, no one wins. Even worse is that SQL Server must choose one of the user processes to kill in order to break the deadlock.

Deadlocks are often caused by poor index design or inattention to coding best practices. The good news is that deadlocks are easy to find and, once you know about them, easy to fix.

Join your host, Kevin Kline, and noted Microsoft MVP Torsten Strauss for this 100% demo session on deadlocks. In this session, you will see:

  • Examples of how deadlocks may occur
  • T-SQL scripts to reveal if deadlocks are happening
  • Xevents to monitor for deadlocks
  • Trace flags that help identify deadlocks
  • Queries to reveal the exact table(s) and record(s) that are deadlocked
  • And much more

Whether you're a dev or DBA, this webinar helps to remove the mystery behind why some applications are plagued by deadlocks and how to detect and remedy them. Learn these important techniques to detect and resolve deadlocks as you continue to advance your skills and level up as a SQL Server or Azure SQL technologist. Join us!
